Jack was born in New York (Manhattan), New York to John O. Holt and Vivian Dempsey Holt on March 7, 1927. He attended Roosevelt High School in Yonkers, NY and Clark Preparatory School in Hanover, NH. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the Navy from 1945-46. He was honorably discharged from the Navy and returned to Clark and graduated later that year. He attended the University of Miami, Florida for two years and then left college to manage his father's newest acquisition, the Berkshire Trout Farm in Sheffield, MA. This is when he met the love of his life, Phyllis June Arienti, and they were married on June 25, 1952 in Hillsdale, NY. They had two children, Karen and John ("Jay"), in 1953 and 1955. Jack managed the Trout Farm for about a decade and then moved his family to Bronxville, NY after the property was sold. In New York, he worked for Metropolitan Life selling insurance. In 1969, they had their third child, Pamela. That year, he visited his sister, Jean, and brother-in-law, Martin, for the Indianapolis 500 and had such a great time, he decided to move his family to Indianapolis, IN and began working for his brother-in-law's furniture store for a couple of years. He continued his career in furniture sales until retirement, including L. Fish and Kittles Fine Furniture (over 20 years).
Jack is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Jean McDermott; and his son, John ("Jay") O. Holt III.
Jack is survived by his wife of 67 years; his daughters, Karen Swanson, and Pamela Hawkins (Mark Pufahl); grandchildren, Rachel Hawkins, Mark (Marsha) Swanson and Seth (Sarah) Holt; and four great-grandchildren.
