Obituary of Jeanne Parker Wiles
Jeanne Parker Wiles 78, of Indianapolis passed away on April 4, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. Jeanne was born on April 22, 1935, in Indianapolis. She was the oldest daughter of Dr. John Francis and Mary Genevieve Parker. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Jeanne graduated from St. Agnes Academy and Marian University with a degree in Nutrition/Dietetics. She clerked on the front desk at the Indiana House of Representatives for several years and developed a working knowledge of the legislative process. From that experience and knowledge, she was hired by the Indiana State Chamber of Commerce to develop and publish a legislative service, tracking the daily activities of the Legislature which was provided to Representatives and Senators of the General Assembly. The service was also available to the general public particularly the business community. For this service to the general public and Legislature, Jeanne was named a State of Indiana Sagamore of the Wabash by Governor Evan Bayh in 1994, an honor that was deeply gratifying to her. Jeanne was a devoted volunteer for St. Mary’s Child Center and the St. Vincent de Paul Helpline. She was also a dedicated supporter of Miracle Place, particularly its Fiesta Friday event, for which she volunteered for over a decade. Jeanne was also a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader and precinct committee woman, and she acted as a Committee Chairwoman of the Cathedral ShamrAuction in the 1980’s. She was an avid reader starting at an early age with the Nancy Drew series and continuing with novels by John Grisham, Tom Clancy and other noted authors. Jeanne had many accomplishments but was most proud of her family and her blissful 56-year marriage to Judge Charles (Chuck) Wiles. In addition to Charles, she is survived by her five children: Jane Wiles; Charlie Wiles (Sachiko); Susan Devine (Patrick); Tom Wiles; and Kay Wiles (Todd Lothery), as well as her seven grandchildren: Jake, Jamie, John, and Joe Devine; and Lena, Aya, and Mia Utsumi Wiles. Jeanne is also survived by her siblings: brothers Jack, Jere, and Jim Parker and sister Jill McCormick. Visitation will be Wednesday April 9, 2014 from 4 – 8 pm at Feeney-Hornak Keystone Mortuary. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday April 10, at 1:00 pm at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Miracle Place, 940 N. Temple Avenue, Indianapolis, IN, 46201. Memorial tributes may be offered at www.feeneyhornakkeystone.com
