Jeanne Emily Wieck Atkins passed away peacefully on January 08, 2022. She was born on November 27, 1930 to the late Joseph and Leona Wieck in St. Louis, MO. While attending high school, her family moved to Indianapolis, where she lived the majority of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Thomas Kuhn Atkins Sr., son, Thomas Kuhn Atkins Jr., daughter, Laura Ann Atkins Strand, and eight siblings. She is survived by two sons, Patrick Joseph Atkins and John (Jack) Wieck Atkins, daughter, Mary Elise (Lisa) Atkins Millner, two sisters, Connie Wieck Sorkin and Mary Dee Wieck Stiebel, brother-in-law Jonathan Atkins, eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She lived life richly and loved her God and her family, especially her husband. She and her sons started and ran Atkins Elegant Desserts for over 25 years. She is famous for including people without other plans in her Thanksgiving dinners and for driving people without transportation to mass. She raised funds for many charities and served on the boards of many organizations, including Marian University which bestowed an honorary degree on her. For years she partnered with Bob and Nancy Irsay to raise funds for the Little Sisters of the Poor.
A Celebration of Life Mass will be held on Friday, Jan. 14, 11:30 AM at St. Luke Catholic Church, Indianapolis, Indiana. Interment will take place at a later date at Our Lady of Peace.
