James Paul Thorp
June 10, 1953 – September 2, 2021

Jim Thorp was born on June 10, 1953 in Lansing, IL to James and Violet Thorp. Jim was an amazing man who lived and loved life to the fullest.
Much of his career was spent in Human Resources specializing in Training and Development. After retirement, he rediscovered his love of teaching. Most recently teaching Speech and Communication at both Ivy Tech and the University of Indianapolis.
Jim had a wide variety of interests, most importantly a huge love of theater. He was an award winning director and actor in Community theater. He even had roles as an extra in the television show, “ER”, and the movie “The Dark Knight.”
With all of his accomplishments, he was most proud of his work with high school students in the field of Forensic Speech. Being in the Forensics Hall of Fame himself, he enjoyed sharing his knowledge and expertise with others and strived to bring out the best in everyone he mentored.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Violet; sister, Jill Thorp; and son, Ryan Thorp.
He is survived by his husband, Jim Nelms; son, Kevin Thorp; his ex-wife and good friend, Eileen Thorp; and several cousins and aunts.
A Mass of Christian Burial for James will be held on Monday, September 13th, 11:00 am at St. Christopher
Catholic Church with visitation from 10:00 am - 11:00 am.
