He leaves a loving wife of 19 years. Betty Thomas Thompson, eight living children from his first wife, Celeste Thompson who proceeded him in death, and they are Brenda Lee, Sherry Louise, Laura Jean, Lynn Anthony, Kevin Duane, Geoffrey Wayne, Celeste Rene, and Dawn Jenise. There are other children, Joy Thompson and Angelina Thompson, and Cheryl and Denise Washington. He was a son, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and friend. He was all of these things to so many people.
He retired from International Harvester as a Journeyman Machinist after 27 years, and was called out of retirement to help train others and to help out during the busy times to a company he loved which had become Navistar. He was not a fan of school, he dropped out of school in the 9th grade, but when it became necessary for him to get his high school diploma in order to become an apprentice at his place of employment, he stayed up nights studying and finally graduated, and was able to take advantage of the opportunity to make more of himself and escape the hard work of the foundry.
His lifelong hobby was working on cars. He worked on cars till he could no longer get beneath them and even then, folks would come by to get his advice on their cars. He was a loyal friend and had many longtime friends right up to his departure.
He was the last survivor of his siblings, Robert, John and Willa Mae, but he leaves a large family of loved ones; sons, daughters, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, greats and grands. He was much loved, and he will be greatly missed.
