James “Jim” Skinner, 67, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away on April 26, 2024. Jim was loved by many and will be deeply missed, as many knew him as a man that was always there. He is survived by his loving wife Margaret of 41 years, two sons James (Caitlin) and Ryan (Maria),his three beloved grandchildren, Ella, Hadley, and Avery, numerous brothers and sisters in law; Tim, Pat (Beth), Liz (Gary), Dan, Chris (Holly), Teresa (Mike), Jennifer (Eric) as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother Gloria Bowman, father George Skinner, his brother Stephen Bowman and sister in law Kelly Aasen. Jim was a dedicated and supportive grandfather, attending all plays, programs and sporting events and created cherished memories with his grandchildren. He was always there to support his daughter-in-law in her acting ventures, showing up to every premiere. You could count on Jim to help you when you needed him. Jim had a smile to share with those around him. He was the life of many a good Halloween party and pig roast. He was always looking for ways to create memories with those he loved and spent many a vacation with his wife celebrating anniversaries, birthdays, and time together.
Early on in his life, Jim served in the United States Army. Following his service, Jim became a Certified Master Technician. He taught Electrical Systems at Lincoln Tech and later became a master mechanic sharing his expertise in multiple shops. He shared his passion for cars with his sons and always offered a helping hand with vehicles within the family. As the family guru, naturally it was Jim who taught Danny, Chris, Liz, Jennifer and later James and Ryan how to drive in true “Skins” fashion. After retiring, he pursued various hobbies, including gardening, card collecting, embroidery, wine making, building model planes and cars as well as was an avid reader and consumer of many movies. He was a man of many talents and he was always there.
A visitation will be held at Crown Hill Funeral Home, 700 W 38th Street, Indianapolis, IN, on Monday, May 6th from 4:00PM-6:00 PM followed by a memorial service at 6:00PM. Flowers can be sent to this location.
