James “Jim” Edward Dowling died peacefully on January 25, 2023. He attended St. Joan of Arc Grade School, St. Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology, Marmion Academy, and graduated from Georgetown University in 1956. He served in the Armed Forces of the United States in Korea from 1956-1957. In 1961 he earned his Juris Doctorate from the Indiana University School of Law. He served as the Deputy Prosecutor for Marion County in 1963. After serving as Deputy Prosecutor, he went into private practice where he focused on real estate, probate and mortgage law. His final years of practice were spent specializing in workers compensation law, which earned him the Sagamore on the Wabash Award.
He married the love of his life, Mary Ann Rocap, in October of 1961. Over the course of their 50 years together, they raised three children. In their retirement, they became snowbirds and enjoyed time in Marco Island, Florida.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward Savage Dowling and Myrtle Gans Dowling, and his wife, Mary Ann Dowling. He is survived by his three children, Michael, Sharon and James M. Dowling. Cousin, Kathy Thomas and a multitude of nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
A visitation will be held Saturday, January 28, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Christ the King Catholic Church, 5885 N. Crittenden Ave., Indianapolis, Indiana 46220, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Following mass, Jim will be laid to rest at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorial donations be made to St. Elizabeth Coleman Pregnancy and Adoption Services, to the Little Sisters of the Poor or to St. Meinrad Seminary.
