James Carmon Arnett was born in Monroe County Kentucky on May 23, 1941. He and his parents moved to Indianapolis in the mid 1940s. He attended Indianapolis public schools and graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in 1959. Shortly after graduation James enlisted in the United States Navy where he served as a Medic for 24 years, including a tour of duty with the Marines in Vietnam and achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer. Throughout his navy years he enjoyed traveling and seeing much of the world. Following his Navy retirement in 1985 James was employed at Dan Young/Penske Chevrolet where he met the love of his life Mary Jane. They were married August 9, 2008.
James possessed a kind and outgoing spirit and was a truly good man. He was proud of his southern heritage and loved to recall stories of his parents and his childhood. More than anything else he treasured his wife and family and was most happy when time together could be shared. In healthier days some of his favorite pastimes were following sports of all kinds, bowling, playing tennis, reading and continued travels.
James passed away on January 27, 2024 after battling Parkinson’s Disease for several years. During his illness his dear Mary Jane was always by his side providing care and comfort.
James was predeceased by his parents Dewey and Ione Arnett, grandson Samuel Snyder and great nephew Jeffrey Taylor. He is survived by his wife Mary Jane (Robinson) Arnett, step sons Tim Snyder (Lauren), Bradley Snyder (Erica), granddaughter Ashley Snyder Walker, grandsons Salem Snyder and Brandon Snyder, sisters Linda Taylor (Tim) and Glenda Arnett, Nephew Derek Taylor (Shannon), Niece Joy Drass(Rob), great nieces Molly Drass and Katherine Taylor and great nephews James Drass and Daniel Taylor.
James will always be missed and his memory greatly cherished but we take comfort that he is resting in the peace of the Lord.
