Obituary of James Albert Allen Sr.
James Albert Allen Sr., was the fourth of nine children born to the late James Allen and Mary Helen Allen (nee Gullion) in Indianapolis, Indiana on January 14, 1926. He was 97 years old, what a blessing! James transitioned from life to everlasting life on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at St. Mary Elizabeth hospital in Louisville, Kentucky following a stay at Signature Healthcare Center, where he received diligent and excellent care. James was educated in the Indianapolis Public Schools System. He only had a 6th grade education, but no one wouldn’t know by speaking with him. James joined the United States Army during World War II and served with honor and dignity for which he received an honorable discharge. Following his military obligation James married Gloria Louise Genvena Allen (Nee Jackson) together they parented three children Darrell, Joyce and James Allen Jr. He was 24 years old when he became a widower, he met and married Edith Cleo Allen (Nee Bunnell) and to this union three children were born Tina, Shirley and Dwayne Allen. James was a member of the teamsters' union; he was employed as a truck driver for National Wine and Liquor Corporation and enjoyed a long and fulfilling career of more than thirty years. His hobbies included his love of hunting, fishing, telling tall tales and barbequing, James made a mean and delicious barbeque sauce and was known to bake great cakes, he simply loved to cook! He knew his way around any kitchen and his daughter Joyce would always say he was a master cook! James was preceded in death by his wives Gloria and Edith Cleo, daughter Tina, son James Jr., seven siblings: Russell Allen, Kenneth Allen, Dorothy “Rae” Allen Conner, Howard Allen Sr., Barbara Allen Lewis, Marilyn Allen Edmonds and William Richardson. James leaves to cherish his memory his daughters; Joyce Young-Bond and Shirley Allen, sons; Darrell Allen and Dwayne (Tiffani) Allen, grandchildren; Cheurron Young, Catrece Young, Chennen Jackson (Joseph–deceased), Charnay (Brian) Hayes, Allen Wilson, Natasha (Josh Cordial) Prim, James Allen III "Jay", Christian, Christopher, Erica, Dwayne II, Marquis, Tristin, great-grandsons and his only remaining sibling, his beloved sister Maxine Joyce Allen Cousin, sister-in-law Mary Allen, a host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends A visitation for James will be held Tuesday, January 2, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Crown Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, Indiana 46208, followed by a Celebration of Life at 12:00 PM.
