88, of Fishers, departed this life Thursday, March 5, 2015. Hugh was born April 8, 1926 in Indianapolis to the late Hugh R. and Josephine (Gill) Sullivan, Sr. He was a 1944 graduate of Cathedral High School, and 1948 graduate of Notre Dame University. Hugh Proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He then earned his MS from Temple University.
Hugh worked as a research scientist for Eli Lilly Company for over 38 years, retiring in 1987. His tireless research led him to the development of Darvon and Darvocet and other commonly used antibiotics.
Hugh was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church and The Knights of Columbus. He was a past Board Member of the Notre Dame Club of Indianapolis and Emeritus Board Member of Cathedral High School and a member and Past President of the Serra Club.
Hugh was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Smith Sullivan.
Hugh is survived by his children: Hugh Sullivan III, Kathleen (Greg) Sullivan Smith, Mark (Jeanine) Sullivan, Marianne Sullivan Roan and Kevin (Ann) Sullivan. Hugh is also survived by his grandchildren, Susan (John) Caito, Aimee Sullivan Morrison, Colin Sullivan, Kelsey Roan and Ryan Sullivan and one great-grandchild, Lucas Morrison.
Hugh is survived by one sister, Mary Jo Campbell and was preceded in death by two brothers, Don Sullivan and Father J. David Sullivan.
Hugh was also preceded in death by his second wife, Elizabeth Matthews Sullivan. He is survived in this marriage by six step-children and eleven step-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Monday, March 9th from 4 – 8 pm at Feeney-Hornak Keystone Mortuary. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, March 10th at 1:00 pm in St. Luke Catholic Church. Entombment follows at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery.
