Thinking of Hugh B’s impact on his family’s firm and our community. Hoping his family, friends and business associates are dwelling on so many fond memories to celebrate Hugh and his lifelong accomplishments. 

I’ve been friends with Hugh since we were 4.  My thoughts and words  could not come close to the feelings I have for him and his family. He will be in mine and Theresa’s prayers daily!!!

My heart goes out to the family, friends and associates who had the privilege of sharing time with Hugh.  Having worked with Hugh, on behalf of the Indiana Big ‘I insurance agents association, what comes to mind was how delightful and fun Hugh would be and then when the meeting commenced his focus was ALL business.  It was a pleasure working with Hugh and a treat to watch him work.

My fondest memories of Hugh are him popping in my office and we would talk for long periods of time. The past, present and future. The conversations were always an absolute pleasure. The highlight of those conversations was when he talked about his family. The light in his eyes changed, his demeanor became that of a teddy bear and his heart beamed along with his smile. I loved those times and I loved Hugh. I went to work for him in 2006, but became his underwriter while at Indiana Insurance in 1989. What an exemplary role model not only in our industry, but personally as well. You will be truly missed Hugh B!  🙏❤️🙏❤️

To all the McGowans - So sorry to hear of Hugh's passing into the Great Beyond from this earthly life.  As a fellow member of the 'Insurance Tribe' I had the chance to interact with Hugh on numerous occasions and occasionally in the competition of the Insurance Brokerage Community.  He was relentless but honorable and provided dignity and class to our Industry as well as giving back.   I was also a fellow Past President of the Big I so I know the commitment of time required to do the things that he did.   His legacy lives on in the McGowan Agency and for that I know that Bill Sr and Hugh are VERY proud.   My best wishes to the family for peace and comfort in this period of transition.  Hugh will be missed by you all - but remember you had a long time together that is not given to many others.  Stay warm in the memories.     From:   W. Hugh bought our agency so many years ago I have forgotten the date. We became a part of the McGowan Agency and a part of the McGowan family, experiencing many interesting, busy and fun filled years.  Family, insurance and sports were the order of the day for Hugh. So many stories to tell of those days I could fill a book. He was a man that always kept his promise to me no matter the cost. The true measure of a person. Keeping their promise. Hugh I have missed the talks we had about who was the best football team in the country. Of course it was always Norte Dame. What a surprise!Hope you never miss a Notre Dame football game again.

I am so sorry for your loss.  Hugh was a great friend to me and, especially, my husband, Tom.  They both were die hard Norte Dame fans and prided themselves on their Irish Heritage.  I like to picture them now rehashing some of the memorable plays they witnessed over their years in South Bend and other venues as well as the CYO gyms where they coached the boys.  We have so many memories of time with the McGowan family.  I understand your grief but know the love you have for each other will sustain you.

Hugh brought so much of his personal integrity into his business life.  One always knew he would work tirelessly on an account and would be straightforward with his analysis and conclusions.  

Not only were we business associates but he was also my friend.  The world has lost a true gentleman.

I am a college friend (and beyond!) to Mary Ellen.  Mr. McGowan always welcomed Mary Ellen's friends with open arms and was truly interested in our lives.   Mr. McGowan will be greatly missed as a devoted husband, father and grandfather.  My heart goes out to Jeanmarie, Hugh, Mike, Mary Ellen and their families.

Hugh was a gentle giant and a consummate gentleman. His kindness, support and encouragement was appreciated.  He was so proud of his heritage and so pleased to be surrounded by his nuclear and insurance families. I hope many fond family memories help ease your sorrow.

Hugh was an icon in the insurance industry, but he was also one of the best individuals I have ever had the privilege to know and work with. I will miss him very much. He made everyone around him a better person.

So sorry for the loss of Mr McGowan.

I have so many great memories of him.  His stories are legendary, grabbing your attention so you did not miss anything . He had great skill at the delivery of a punch line of a funny story.

He was such a great supporter of his family,  friends, his Catholic faith, Cathedral High School, the University of Norte Dame, the City of Indianapolis, the State of Indiana, the Indy 500 and Irish culture!

Hugh will be greatly missed. He always had a smile on his face and he was always kind and gentle. We are so sorry for your loss, Aunt Jean Marie, Hugh, Kate, Mike, Mary Ellen, Jimmy and grandkids.

I got to know Hugh in the 1970’s-80’s as an insurance professional.  He was always a very kind and dedicated man…my condolences to the family and friends that knew him well.

My deepest sympathy to the McGowan family.  Hugh was a great person.  I met him through my involvement with the Independent Insurance Agents (Big I).  He was one of my early mentors and taught me show much about the insurance industry and how to be a servant leader.

Our deepest sympathy goes out to the entire McGowan family in the passing of Hugh.  He was a true insurance professional and kind individual.  Always engaging and welcoming.  We enjoyed our conversations at various insurance related events over the years.

You have lost a husband, father, grandfather and brother.  We have lost a friend who made an impact in the lives of so many.  May God provide you comfort and peace in the days ahead.
