Helen Frances Morrow, daughter of the Late Richard and Lela Mae Morrow, was born June 4,1926 in Keysburg, Kentucky. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Willie D. and Sister Cecil. She attended public schools in Kentucky and at an early age, she confessed her faith in Christ.
Helen was always independent, highly motivated and adventurous. She loved music and she loved to travel. In August of 1972, she began working in the Dietetics Food Service department with the Veterans Administration in Indianapolis Indiana. She rose quickly to a level of respect and admiration and received complimentary remarks from her administrators due to her “take charge and get things done” work ethic. Helen retired from the VA after over 30 years of service.
Helen was a member of Barnes United Methodist Church in Indianapolis, where she worshipped for many years. She loved angels and always had figurines of glass and porcelain, of all sizes and colors all around her home as if they were always watching over her.
Helen was the first to move into the then new Booth Manor Retirement Village. There she lived a long, independent productive life and became “mother and confident” to many of the “younger” residents and again continued her "take charge" ethic. She was very active in helping to organize activities, especially the puzzle parties and the finished product was showcased all around the building. Helen was there until earlier this year when she moved to the Aspen Trace Assisted Living facility in Greenwood, Indiana. At Aspen Trace she enjoyed the activities and socialization with the residents and staff. Helen spoke with confidence and conviction and remained vigilant in her beliefs and was always willing to share her knowledge and wisdom to those in need until she transitioned from this life peacefully at age 98 years and 6 months.
Helen Morrow reminds us to trust in God, believe in yourself and enjoy life, every day to the fullest measure. “Big Helen” as she was affectionately known, to family, leaves to cherish her memory, her nephew Tony Gamble (Linda) of AL, niece Brenda Bauerle (Jay) of OH, niece Edith Whitehead (Purnell) of SC, Alvin Gamble of OR, nieces Gloria Craig, Caritha Markey (Spencer), and nephews Charles Amego Gamble (Charolette), and Field Thompson Jr., of Indianapolis, IN, nieces and nephews (children of her late sister Cecil Nichols) in Kentucky and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
A visitation for Helen will be held Sunday, December 15, 2024, from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at Crown Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, Indiana 46208, followed by a Celebration of Life at 2:00 PM.
