Guy Rodney “Rod” Loudermilk, age 89 of Indianapolis, passed away October 1, 2023. He was born November 15, 1933 in Knox, Indiana to the late Homer Guy and Roberta (Murray) Loudermilk. Although born in Knox, IN, he grew up in Nappanee, Indiana. He graduated from Nappanee High School in 1951, joined the U.S. Air Force in 1952, and was honorably discharged in February, 1956. He met his wife Theresa (Terry) in NYC. They were married April 21, 1956 in a double wedding ceremony with Terry’s cousin, Sophie, and Guy’s buddy, Bill.
Guy received his Bachelors and Master’s degree in Education from Ball State University.
He taught 38 years in Washington Township as a fifth and sixth grade teacher, with 20 of those years as an assistant principal. Guy loved teaching every day.
After retiring in 1998, Guy volunteered at St. Vincent Hospital. He was also a longtime blood donor. He enjoyed playing golf with his group of buddies. He achieved two holes in one, one in Colorado and the other in Indianapolis. He also enjoyed walking and talking to anyone on the Monon trail, and enjoyed having lunch with his fellow retired teachers once a month. Gardening was another favorite hobby, especially growing tomatoes. As an avid reader, he decided to write his own book, “The Farm that Adopted Me.” He was proud of his accomplishment of being published, thanks to his sister Diane for helpful advice.
He was a member of the Indiana Teachers Association and Jordan YMCA. He was also a Pacers and Colts fan. Guy and Terry enjoyed many trips to Colorado, Arizona, and Florida to visit family and friends. They spent their 30th wedding anniversary in Hawaii.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Theresa (Rivello) Loudermilk; daughter, Susan (Todd) Morris; sons, Douglas (Sheryl ) Loudermilk and Anthony Loudermilk; grandchildren, Christopher Loudermilk and Nicole (Aaron) Bauman; great granddaughters, Zoe, McKenzie, and Amelia Bauman; sister, Jane (Tom) Brooks, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and healthcare providers at the Heart Hospital of Indiana, St. Vincent Hospital, and Spring Mill Meadows- Rehabilitation for all of their special care.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 12, 2023 from 4-6 PM at Leppert Mortuary – Nora Chapel, 740 E. 86th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 13, 2023 at 11:30 AM at St. Luke Catholic Church, 7575 Holliday Drive East, Indianapolis, Indiana. A reception with light refreshments will follow the Mass at Church. Inurnment at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery.
