95, of Fishers, departed to eternal life with Christ on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at home. He was born December 7, 1920 in Huntington, IN to the late Michael and Mary (White) Russell. Dick proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II. He flew C-46, C-47 and C-49 heavy transport aircraft in the Asiatic – Pacific Theatre, specifically the China-Burma-India triangle. He piloted the Curtiss C-46 Commando or “Hump”, in many campaigns through the countless dangers of the Himalaya’s. After the war, Dick continued his service in the United States Air Force, and served during the Korean War. He retired after 27 years as Lieutenant Colonel in 1970. As a civilian, he worked for the Federal Housing Administration as chief appraiser for 25 years and then worked as an independent real estate appraiser until his retirement in 2004. He was a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, and was active in coaching CYO youth sports. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen (Disser) Russell. Dick is survived by his children, Mike Russell and Margie (Don) Setterlof; his second wife, Ruth Brody Russell; grandchildren, Ben Roe, Kelly Greer, Jenny Stanley, Ryan Setterlof and Kristen Spiegel and twelve great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 – 8 pm on Wednesday, August 3rd at Feeney-Hornak Keystone Mortuary. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 am Thursday, August 4th at St. Pius X Catholic Church with calling there beginning at 9:30 am. Entombment follows at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to The Salvation Army or to Little Sisters of the Poor.
