Floyd Eldon Smith, 75, son of the late Walter Van Smith and Lillian (Handley) Smith passed away peacefully at his home with his sister Anita by his side on October 24, 2024. Floyd was born February 1949, in Wilson, Arkansas. He moved to Indianapolis in June 1968 graduating from Arsenal Tech in 1969. Floyd worked at Stark & Wetzel for many years and later retiring from Bob’s Tool & Cutter Grinding.
He is survived by his best friend and sister Anita J Smith, Indianapolis, IN; Helen (Marvin) Johnson, Plainfield, IN; brothers Alfred (Euretta) Smith, Little Rock, Arkansas and Omer (Linda) Smith, West Memphis, Arkansas and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers Norman Eugene Smith, Indianapolis, IN; Joseph W Smith, Indianapolis, IN; Grace V Higbee, Brownstown, IN.
Floyd was a past member of Southport Masonic Lodge #270, Scottish Rite, and Past Governor of the Speedway Moose Lodge 500 where he proudly earned his Fellowship Degree in 1998. January 2020, he was baptized and a member of Winter Haven Christian Church in Winter Haven, Florida.
Floyd was a fun man to be around. He was passionate about his volunteer work at the Speedway Moose and helping at the local nursing homes. He enjoyed camping with his family, playing cards, cooking, going to movies, decorating for the holidays, cruises, but mainly being with family. He was one of the organizers for the family gatherings and events.
A Celebration of Floyd’s (Eldon to family) life will be conducted by his brother-in-law, Marvin Johnson on Wednesday, October 30,2024, at Family Funeral Care on Rockville Road. Moose ritual will be conducted at 2 pm followed by the service. Friends may visit with the family from 11 until the time of services.
Burial will take place at Vallonia Cemetery in Vallonia, IN on Thursday, October 31st at 1 pm.
