Evelyn Bernice Gresham Scott, the tenth of ten children, was born on August 30, 1929 to the union of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charlie and Mary Gresham Sr. in Woodville (Greene County) Georgia. She was preceded in death by three sisters and six brothers. Evelyn attended public school in Woodville Georgia. Evelyn surrendered her life to Christ at an early age and joined the St. Paul Baptist Church in Woodville where she was baptized by the late Rev. J. J. Gresham. Evelyn met and married the love of her life, the late John Adam Scott of Woodville Georgia in December 1946. They were married for 50 years before John was called to glory on august 22, 1997. Evelyn and John migrated to Indianapolis in the 60's where she transferred her church membership to Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. She remained a faithful member until 2012 when she moved to Cleveland Ohio to be near her sister. She devoted her life to helping family, neighbors as well as the less fortunate.
Evelyn was employed as a product inspector with RCA Inc. (which was later acquisition and then merged into General Electric). There she performed her duties as a faithful employee until her retirement.
While she fought a good fight, her load was heavy and the hills were getting harder to climb. So God dispatched his angels around her and whispered in her ear, "Peace Be Thine". The Lord called her to her heavenly home on February 2, 2018.
In her death, she leaves to cherish her memories one sister; Mr. and Mrs. Fletcher (Mattie) Jernigan of Cleveland Ohio; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and many friends in Atlanta Georgia, Detroit Michigan, as well as Indianapolis Indiana. Services will be held on Friday,February 9, 2018 visitation will be from 11:30 am until 12:00 pm Service is to follow immediately.
