Elizabeth Beatrice Dixson

Elizabeth was born in Bowling Green, Kentucky, to Thomas and Mattie Hawkins on June 6, 1926. She began her education in Bowling Green and graduated from Crispus Attucks High School in Indianapolis.

She married George C. Dixson on July 9, 1955, in Indianapolis. She was an educator for the Indianapolis Public School System for over 35 years. She was a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and served on the board of many organizations such as the Forest Manor Multi-Service Center and Auntie Mame’s Child Development Center. She was a very active member of the Greater Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church in Indianapolis and New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Stonecrest, Georgia.

Elizabeth Dixson is preceded in death by her husband, George Dixson; her son, Tyrone Dixson; her parents; her brothers, Erskin, James Elder, and Taylor (PeeWee) Hawkins, her sisters; Frances Murrell, Everlena Gibson, and Ruby Hawkins; and one grandson.

Mrs. Dixson is survived by her daughters, Joycelyn (Steven) Rose, Karen Dixson, and Patrice (Keith) Shannon; four grandchildren - Elizabeth Dixson Tunstill, Tyrone E. Dixson II, Jordan S. Rose, and Jessica J. Dixson; five great-grandchildren; Jaren, Ariel Elizabeth, Aaren and Jaxon Tunstill and Xavier G. Dixson, sister-in-law, Cora S. Trice; and a host of nieces, nephews, “adopted” children, grandchildren, “adopted” grandchildren, extended family, and dear friends.

Visitation will be from 10 am to noon on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at New Liberty Missionary Baptist Church, 10125 East 30th Street, Indianapolis. Funeral services will immediately follow with Pastor Melody Boone of Eden Christian Community Church officiating. Burial will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are handled by Crown Hill Funeral Home.
