Eleanora F. Flynn, 90, passed away on June 11, 2012, at her home in Indianapolis.
She was born in Lawrenceburg, Indiana on August 19, 1921, to Robert and Lydia Edwards. She married Edward J. Flynn in 1947 at SS. Peter and Paul Cathedral. Eleanora Flynn was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was a long-time parishioner of Christ the King Catholic Church and Eucharistic Minister. She frequently volunteered at the Christ the King Church Summer Festival. Along with her husband, she was a member of the Christ the King Drama Club. She was also a Brownie troop leader.
Eleanora Flynn attended Indiana University on scholarship, but left prior to graduation to help support her mother. During World War II, she served in the volunteer American Red Cross Nurse’s Aide Corps of Indianapolis. She rose to the position of executive secretary at Citizens Gas before leaving to start a family. After her youngest child entered school, she returned to work as the personal secretary to the Principal, and bookkeeper for Bishop Chatard High School.
Eleanora was an accomplished gardener and an expert in needle arts. She continued to tend her flower garden until her mid 80’s. She was truly a master baker, capable of producing the perfect apple or pumpkin pie.
Mrs. Flynn was preceded in death by her husband Edward Flynn, her sons Sean and Timothy, and her sisters Katherine Neary, Marie Seitz, and Betty Edwards.
She is survived by her daughters: Noreen (Paul) Tasker; Elizabeth (Robert) Wilson; Mary Pat Flynn; Jennifer (Scott) Fulton; and her sons: Joseph (Kathy) Flynn; Michael Flynn; Dennis Flynn; Robert (Carol) Flynn; Daniel (Debbie) Flynn; along with 17 grandchildren, one great-grandchild with one on the way, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held at Feeney-Hornak Keystone Mortuary, from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Monday, June 18, 2012. A prayer service for Eleanora will begin at 9:30AM Tuesday, June 16th at the mortuary followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM at Christ the King Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, American Heart Association, Christ the King Catholic Church, or Bishop Chatard High School.
