Dr. Edward C Shipley (Retired), 90 of Indianapolis died on January 29th, 2018. Born on March 23rd, 1927 in Wausau, WI to Norman and Clara Shipley, he lived in WI for 13 years, moving to Gary, IN and worked at the steel mills and then graduated from Merrillville HS in 1945. Edward then joined the United States Army Air Force and served in Japan on occupational duty following World War II. After service, in 1948 he entered pre-med at Indiana University and while in college, formed Em Dee Construction Company with two other medical school students and eventually built 19 houses. Upon graduating medical school, Dr. Shipley then began a career in the medical field that lasted 37 years, specializing in child psychiatry, and was a life member of the American Psychiatric Association. On June 20th, 1953, Edward married the love of his life, Janet Rhea (Pearcy) and for almost 65 years loved each other every day as husband and wife, raising their children Norman (Heidi), Susie (Colin Davis) Shipley and David (Karen Pacific). Edward cherished his 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He enjoyed his family, golfing, and was a member of the Sertoma Club of East Indianapolis. Surviving Edward are his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sister Florence Bogle, nieces Beth and Ann Bogle and nephew Peter Bogle. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Francis Alsmiller. A memorial visitation celebrating Edward's life will be held at Feeney-Hornak Keystone Mortuary, 2126 E. 71st St. on Saturday, Feb 3rd from 11:30AM until 1:00 PM, with a memorial service at 1:00PM. In lieu of flowers, Edward's family respectfully asks for and gratefully appreciate any memorial donations in his name be made to the Sertoma Club of East Indianapolis.
