Earmon Jr. was preceded in death by his parents Earmon Hubbard Sr. and Delphia, sisters Mildred, Hattie, Earnastine, brothers Johnnie Hubbard and Freddie Hubbard and his son Earmon Hubbard III.
Earmon Jr. attended IPS School 56 and Crispus Attucks High School. He enlisted in the US Army and was released on an honorable discharge. After over 30 years of faithful employment, Earmon Jr. retired from J. Everette Light Career Center and J.C. Penny as a Maintenance Technician.
In 1957, Earmon Jr. married the love of his life, Margaret Wooden Hubbard on June 29th, they would have celebrated 63 years this month. Out of their union they had nine children, Christopher, Stacy Hunt (Earl), Earmon III, Deirdre Benjamin, Charisse Robinson (William) Charmain, Byron, Helen, and David, 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. He loved taking his wife and children to Holiday Park to play softball and frisbees. He also had a love for sweets, especially cookies and chocolate.
Earmon Jr., affectionately known as, "Hub", "Dig Man", "Piano Man, was a self-taught Jazz piano player. He could turn on the radio and play right along without any sheet music. He was the older brother of Freddie Hubbard, the famous trumpet player. They had gigs together at The Madame CJ Walker Building, The Jazz Kitchen, Jazz on the Avenue, and many other locations. He had a band, "The Earmon Hubbard Quintet." They practiced in his living room while his children sat on the couch to listen. He was honored to have played with his long- time friends Clifford Ratliff, Pookie Johnson, Donald Morman, Jimmie Cole, Bill Myers, Frank Smith, Larry Ridley, and a host of others. He was recently honored as a "Living Jazz Legend" Crispus Attucks.
Earmon Jr. never met a stranger. He always brightened your day with a smile and holding up the two-finger peace sign. He was loved by many people. Every morning he would make his rounds and visit his bank, the Shell gas station, and White Castles to grab a cup of coffee and greet all the customers and talk to the staff. He would share words of wisdom and end the conversation by saying, "STAY STRONG!"
Earmon Jr. was a long-time bowler at 421 Bowl where he was respected on the lanes. He had a mean hook ball. He often drew crowds. A few times he almost bowled a perfect game with a score of 298!
Earmon Jr. was baptized into Christ on October 18, 2019 at Kingsley Terrace Church of Christ. He loved attending worship service and fellowship with his brothers and sisters in Christ.
The family of Earmon Hubbard Jr. would like to thank the St. Vincent Hospice organization, his caregiver/daughter Charisse Robinson for everything they did to keep him comfortable and happy over the last seven months of his life. We also appreciate the kindness and support from family, friends, and neighbors.
