Was born December 18, 1935 in Hurtsboro, Alabama to Ethel Mae Dawson and George H. Brannon (both deceased). Her family moved to East Chicago, Indiana when she was approximately one (1) year old. She was later adopted by her step-father, Allen B Rollen. She attended grade school and graduated from East Chicago Washington High School in June 1953. While attending, she participated in the high school marching band, playing the clarinet. After graduating, she attended Mt. Sinai Nursing School in Chicago, IL for a year. She ultimately took the Civil Service Test for employment with the federal government.
In 1955, Dyrthene moved to Indianapolis, IN. She worked for the Internal Revenue Service, the Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Army Finance Center. She retired in September 1994, after working for 37 years.
In 1956, Dyrthene was introduced by an acquaintance to Billy Arnold Crowe. Romance flourished and on December 6, 1958 the two were united in marriage. To this union was born a daughter, Karen B. (Crowe) Crawford.
Dyrthene accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of St. Marks AME Zion Church in East Chicago, Indiana. After relocating to Indianapolis, she joined Allen Chapel AME Church.
Dyrthene is a member of Nellie M. Strong Chapter #59, Order of Eastern Star. She has held several offices, including that of Worthy Matron. She also held offices in the District and Grand Chapter. She was a member of the A Non Gon Club and the Daughter of ISIS, Persian Court #24.
Upon retiring, she and her co-workers that retired together formed a social group, called Club 94. They stayed in touch with one another by meeting monthly in their homes.
She leaves to mourn her memory, her husband, Billy A. Crowe; her daughter, Karen (John) Crawford; a stepson, Barry Crowe; granddaughters Danielle, Kimberly, Angelica "Nikki," Shaneeka; and grandson John, III. ; great-grandsons, great-grandaughters and a host of relatives and friends.
