Beloved only daughter of Lloyd and Helen Allen, revered wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother,
Dee was liked by all, perhaps because of her generous spirit and easy going ways. Her husband, Dick, liked to say that her favorite discipline for her 4 boys was to quietly clap her hands and say “Now, Boys!” She had a generous and sunny way of looking at things and an intelligence that fueled many pursuits throughout her long life.
Dee grew up in Vincennes, IN where she graduated as class salutatorian and later on to Indiana University where she finished with a degree in English. She was a life long learner, voracious reader, avid tennis and bridge player and participated in a wide range of volunteer activities around Indianapolis. She also loved to travel and spend time with her large family.
Dee was a long time member of the Indianapolis Junior League, where she participated in many different capacities but most fondly as editor of their publication “Pen and Inklings”. She served St. Margaret’s Guild for many years as well and was a co-chairperson for the Decorator’s Showhouse in 1977. She was also a docent at the Indianapolis Museum of Art as well as other local charities.
She was the proud matriarch of the MacGill Clan, married to Dick for 67 years. She is survived by 5 children Mike (Kate), Steve (Beth), Rob (Sue), Rick and Kathie, 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren (and counting!). Private services will be held for family members.
