Dorothy Frances (Barnes) Jenkins, of Avon, passed away September 6, 2020 at the age of 97. She graduated from Fillmore High School with 2 scholarships to Central Normal College in Danville. She studied banking at the Blanche M. Weane School of Business in Greencastle. She was a banker for 29 years, working herself up to an officer. She was employed at Central National Bank in Greencastle, Second National Bank in Houston, Texas, Baltimore National Bank in Baltimore, Maryland, Merchants National Bank in Indianapolis and First National Bank in Coatesville. She was listed in Who's Who of American Women.
Dorothy was an accomplished musician, having played the piano, organ, violin and French Horn. She accompanied the high school chorus and was in the high school band and school orchestra. She entertained at various events, played at weddings, church and Sunday school and played over the radio.
She married Kenneth Lowell Jenkins on July 25, 1942 and he preceded her in death in 2007. They moved to Venice, Florida and lived there 25 years where she was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church. She and Ken traveled extensively in the world, having visited 8 countries in Europe, all around the Caribbean, 3 countries in South America, Mexico City and Acapulco and all the provinces of Canada and all of the 50 United States.
They moved to Avon in 2001. She was a member of the Avon United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and volunteered in many other church activities. Ken and Dorothy celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in Grand Canyon, Arizona with their family in 1992.
Survivors include her daughter, Beverly Eileen Wineman and her husband Max, her son, Victor Ray Jenkins, 5 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, a niece, nephew and several great nieces and nephews. A brother Harvey Glenn Barnes preceded her in death.
Visitation will be held Thursday, September 10, 2020 from 11:00 am until the service time at 1:00 pm at Avon United Methodist Church, 6850 E. US Hwy 36, Avon, Indiana 46123. Burial will follow in the Fillmore Cemetery in Fillmore, Indiana.
Memorial contributions in Dorothy's memory may be made to the Avon United Methodist Church Endowment Fund.
