Doris Greene Vaught Williams was the third child of the late Rev. & Mrs. Floyd and Algie Greene. She was born on June 26, 1929 in Henderson, TN. Doris departed this life on April 24, 2020 at home with her daughter Yvonne by her side.
Doris became a Christian at an early age and throughout her life she reflected goodness and righteousness in all of her life activities.
Doris grew up in Jackson, TN and was a member of St. Paul Christian Methodist Episcopal Church.
Doris was a member of Phillips Temple Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in Indianapolis, IN where she sang with the Voices of Praise and Women’s Day Choir. She was a member of the Women’s Missionary Society, Forward Step Ministries, Bishop Henry Williamson Ministry, Noon Day Bible Study, Class Leader, and the O.D. Walker Academy. She always found time to attend most of the ministries meetings serving as secretary.
Her preparation for a career of professional service began in Jackson, TN city schools, graduating from Merry High School. She earned a Bachelor of Art degree from Lane College in Jackson, TN, a Master of Science degree and a reading endorsement from Indiana University.
Doris worked in education for over forty five years serving in four states Tennessee, Illinois, Indiana, and Nevada.
Her affiliation with professional organizations included the National Education Association, American Federation of Teachers, Lane College Alumni Chapter of Indianapolis, IN, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated.
She was married to Curtiss D. Williams for over fifty years who preceded her in death. She was the mother of five children Carole, Floyd, Constance Renee, Yvonne, Carlos and special friend to Linnette Hardy-Skinner.
Doris was preceded in death by her sisters Louise Flakes and Gertrude Lawrence. Family members mourn her loss, her sister Drusilla Davis of Atlanta, GA, children Carole, Floyd, Constance Renee, Yvonne, Carlos, Linnette, her 12 grandchildren, Darnell (Renee), Stacey Lynn (Roderick), Angela (Dana), Theo, Melissa, Kareen, Charles Jr. (Andrea), Kyle (Ashely), DeAngelo, Kesiha, Corey and Olivia; 35 great-grandchildren and a host of great great-granchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She will be truly missed but God has called her home.
