Donald "Don" M. Blue

Retired Major Donald M. Blue, born January 15, 1935, passed on July 18, 2023, in his sleep in Indianapolis, Indiana. Don was a family man married to wife, Gail with children Ronald, Lisa, Polly and Michelle. He was son to Schuyler and Dorthea and brother to David. Don graduated from Broad Ripple High School and went on to attend and graduate from Butler University with a degree in Business Management. Having joined the US Air Force, he was a trained pilot flying T-33’s, T-38’s and F-4 Phantom jets and served during the Vietnam War while also having been stationed in Texas and The Philippines. He was a leader of men and fellow pilots and served with distinction from 1956-1976. After he retired in 1976, he managed Marquette Manor in Indianapolis for a number of years and eventually he and Gail retired to Florida for a while until they moved back to Indianapolis to enjoy time with their children and grandchildren. He loved to play golf as well as movies, his electronics, lamb for dinner on his birthday and Father’s Day, Polly’s cheeseburger pie, Panera, his time with the Scottish Rite and Butler University. Don will be laid to rest at Crown Hill cemetery with full military honors as well as a recognition by his fellow Masons. He is survived by his wife, Gail, 3 children, 1 stepdaughter, 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He will be remembered affectionately and missed by all. A visitation for Don will be held Monday, July 24, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Crown Hill Funeral Home - Peace Chapel, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, IN 46208, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM.
