Dick Shaw

Richard N. “Dick” Shaw, 85, of Carmel, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2023. He was born on November 28, 1937, in Westport Connecticut, to the late Richard and Ruth Shaw. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Jennifer L. Shaw; his daughter Sage Paquette (Patrick); his daughter Prentiss Shaw (Andrew); and his daughter Lisa Behnke; his sister Susan Shaw; his grandchildren Travis (Lynn) Paquette, Rhyan (Melissa) Paquette, Dustin (Katie) Paquette, Phoebe Behnke, Ruby Behnke,; his great-grandchildren Trent, Hudson, Sawyer, Emma, Bodhi, Lydia, Madelyn and Luke. Dick’s father died when he was a boy and the self-reliance he developed then became a hallmark of his demeanor. After high school, Dick served in the United States Army, crewed on an oil tanker in the Gulf and on Lake Superior, later graduating from the University of Vermont, where he played on the NCAA basketball team. After graduation, Dick began his lumber sales career with Lawrence R. McCoy, where he made lifelong friendships. Transferred to Indiana, he later met Don Davidson and was proud to manage the wholesale lumber division for Don at Davidson Industries for over three decades. An avid golfer, Dick spent many hours at Forest Park Golf Course and in his backyard, ever improving his swing. Among his other joys were animals and he was dedicated to caring for the wildlife around his home. A strong and caring man, he was generous with his time and talents to those he knew and loved. Dick was the first to be there if you needed a repair, a loan or a caddie. A visitation for Dick will be held Friday, January 20, 2023 from ll:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Leppert Mortuaries-Nora, 740 East 86th St, Indianapolis, Indiana 46240, followed by a memorial service at 1:00 PM.
