He was the son of George and Marceline Donovan, loving husband, father, grandfather, friend, sailor, pilot, artist and author of The Elysian Bridge. David retired from Eli Lilly as a Senior Technician after 35 years of dedicated employment, worked on the railroad as a Fireman, and worked as a “Soda Jerk” in Beech Grove when he was a teenager, as well as a farmhand on the Heeringa Farm before and after serving in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1954 to 1956. He married Margaret Heeringa on June 24, 1954.
He was a single-engine aircraft pilot and Instructor at Greenwood Airport, Captained many different types of boats in the Caribbean and crossed the Gulf of Mexico more than once, a water and snow skier, golfer, bowler and world traveler.
He is survived by his wife Margaret of 63 years, daughter Christa (James) Wachob, son David (Ginny) Donovan, grandchildren Kyle Smith, Jackie Donovan and Jacob Donovan. David was preceded in death by his loving parents and brothers Gerald R. Donovan, Sr. and Dannie Ray Donovan.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his memory to the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) or Smile Train organizations.
