The family later moved to Indianapolis and Catherine received her formal education in the Indianapolis Public System and later attended Crispus Attucks High School
In the fall of 1948 Catherine, her mother Sarah and brother Clarence as well as others established a church in the home of Mildred Boyd, and the name was Northside Christian Methodist Episcopal Church. Northside CME was later renamed to Emmanuel CME Church. Catherine remained a life long member of Emmanuel and served on the Usher Board and Stewardess Board.
In June 1966, she began working at White Castle Restaurants and was promoted to management. She worked tirelessly attending to loyal customers and often spoke of the daily "Coffee Club Group" with fondness.
On January 3, 1998 she retired after more the 32 years of service to others. Shortly thereafter she continued her career or service working part time at Robin Run Village and remained for 15 years, until her health determined that she needed to retire for the second time.
Catherine departed this life on March 28, 2019 at the age of 83 years. She will be greatly missed by her family, all who knew her worked with her throughout the years. She was preceded in death by her parents John Huckleberry, Sarah Huckleberry and her stepmother Loma Huckleberry, Brother Clarence Huckleberry Sr., Son-in-law Lesley R. Thomas, and granddaughter Tasha Thomas-Roper.
She leaves to cherish her memory two faithful daughters Shirley Thomas, Janet Sanford (Lee), granddaughter Natasha Allen (Mike), grandson Tyrone Thomas, grandson Terrence Sanford (Monique), granddaughter Alexis Sanford, great grandchildren Malik Roper, Zhane Roper, MiKael Allen, MiKala Allen, Da'jah Oliver, Elijah Sanford, Niece Kimberly Hughley, Nephew Elder Clarence Huckleberry Jr. and a host of cousins, friends, and her beloved Emmanuel Church family.
