The final page of her life here on earth was turned on Sunday, September 22nd, when, at 82 years old with her two daughters, Alecia and Dena by her bedside, God welcomed Carole to her eternal home freeing her from the toll that sickness had taken on her physical body. Carole was preceded in death by her parents, James and Addie Weir, and her husband James Toler, as well as her two sisters, Altheria Madry and Aletha Herring, and her brother, James Weir.
At a young age, Carole gave her life to Jesus and was baptized at the Church of Christ Holiness USA on 789 Edgemont Ave. She later became an active member of Light of the World Christian Church where she sang in the Golden Lights choir until her declining health and passing.
In 1960, Carole graduated from Crispus Attucks High School and began a career utilizing her administrative skills, spending most of her professional years at the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and Center Township Trustee until she retired.
Carole possessed the amazing ability to make anything look beautiful. Christmas trees, food dishes, floral arrangements, fireplace mantles, sweatshirts, place settings, gardens, and yards became works of art through her special gift for artistry! She also used her creative talent to bless the lives of so many children, making Halloween costumes, hosting tea parties, and stocking candy dishes with treats that attracted frequent visits from family and neighborhood kids alike. You would never know from Carole’s sweet smile and calm demeanor that she also had a fantastic sense of humor. She loved pranking unsuspecting people (including her siblings) with fake snakes, spiders, and scary monster masks.
Carole married the love of her life, James (Jimmy) Toler, on May 18, 1985. Their blended family included Alecia and Micah Young, and Dena Toler. Until Jimmy’s death on June 4th, 2024, just 110 days before Carole’s passing, they celebrated 39 years of marriage as best friends and soul mates with a love story that began in high school. In marriage, they compassionately and empathetically cared for one another until they could no longer do so due to declining health, honoring the vows of “in sickness and health and until death do us part.”
Carole is survived by her daughters, Alecia Young and Dena Toler; her son, Micah Young; and her granddaughter Journey; as well as her sisters, Nerissa Hunt (Charles) and Diana Weir; brothers, Walter Weir and Richard Weir (Angie); and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends who have become forever family.
Although the last page of their lives here on earth has been turned, we know that death has no sting and the grave has no victory because in John 11:25, Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in Me will live, even after dying.” As Christ followers, Carole and Jimmy’s stories do not end in death. That is the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ!
A visitation for Carole will be held Friday, September 27, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Light Of The World Christian Church, 4646 N Michigan Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46228, followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 AM.
