Obituary of Brenda Lamar Williams
On Saturday, November 19, 2022, Brenda Williams at the age of seventy-eight was called home to be with the Lord. Brenda was born on March 9th, 1944, in Indianapolis, IN. to parents Arto Williams and Margaret Gertrude (Wade) Wesley. She attended Shortridge High School in Indianapolis, IN. Brenda worked in retail until she landed her career job at Allison Transmission, General Motors in 1977. Brenda spent 32 years working at Allison’s before retiring in 2009. A member of several churches but she most recently attended First Free Will Baptist Church. Brenda was an incredible woman who worked hard and loved harder. She would freely give her last dime or shirt off her back to you if you needed help. Brenda was unselfish and determined to do it her way. Brenda loved to travel by car, accompanied or alone (mostly alone). Frequently she would take a road trip to Memphis TN, Texas, Michigan or anywhere her son or granddaughter lived. Brenda’s road trips were cut short, when she was diagnosed with the life-changing disease dementia in 2019. She fought a good fight, battling lung cancer all the way to the end. She will be missed so very much, by so many. Brenda is survived by her son Micheal E. Hopkins Jr. (Roxanne), one granddaughter, Mikaela, two step-granddaughters, Shelby and Jordan (Mafellus); two step-grandsons, Thearin and Cameron; one step-great-granddaughter, Annelisse. Brenda has one sister, Jean Jones; four nieces, Shonara Jones, Charisse McReynolds, Lunye Geter (Darnell), and Mauri Goens; three great-nieces, Jahna Jones, Mariah Rose and Gracie Rose; two great-nephews, Khiri Jenkins and LaDarius Goens. Brenda was preceded in death by her late daughter, LaDonna Hopkins; father, Arto Williams and mother, Margaret Gertrude (Wade) Wesley. Brenda is also honored and remembered by her extended family and friends: Linda K. Johnson, Patricia Jackson, Debra Cain, Norman Porter, Dionel Johnson, John Eric Johnson, Ishmael Cain, Leon Cain, Amber Cain, Shonda Johnson, Charles Porter Jr., Jousha and Joan Nicholson (Robert).
