Beverly Rae Jenkins White "Ms. Beverly", was born on January 10th, 1934, to Charles and Goldie Jenkins, in Indianapolis, Indiana. She received her formal education from the Indianapolis Public Schools system, including Crispus Attucks High School. On February 14th, 1951, she was united in holy matrimony to James White. To this union, three children were born. Her husband, her son David, her parents, and her brother James Stewart preceded her in death.
As a young lady growing up in Scott United Methodist Church, Ms. Beverly confessed to Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. Later, she became a faithful member and servant of Barnes United Methodist Church. There she served as president of the Senior/Chancel Choir, President of the Adult Ministry, and a member of the Taste of Heaven Feeding Ministry. She was a fabulous cook and baker. Her specialties were her pineapple upside-down cake and her banana pudding.
Ms. Beverly, whose smile was known to light up a room, was a lifelong resident of Indianapolis. She retired from Lane Bryant after 25 years of dedicated service but decided she wasn't ready for retirement just yet. She became the Head Baker at the Indiana School for the Deaf and worked for six more years before retiring again. However, she still was not ready to remain idle. She went on to work at Arlington High School and Louis B. Russell School 48, within the Indianapolis Public School system before finally retiring in 2012.
Ms. Beverly answered her call to rest on May 2nd, 2023, at Community Hospital North at the age of 89 years. A loving and devoted mother and grandmother, she leaves to cherish her memory her son, James White Jr., daughter, Donna White, granddaughter, Dr. Scherie' Rankin, honorary daughters Carol Hall and Rochelle Owens, honorary grandchildren, Charles and Michelle Calligan her second family, Joy's House and a host of relatives and friends. She shall be missed by all who knew and loved her.
A visitation for Beverly will be held Saturday, May 13, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Barnes United Methodist Church, 900 W 30th St, Indianapolis, Indiana 46208, followed by a celebration of life at 12:00 PM.
