87, passed away at home on Sunday morning, surrounded by her loving children. She was born July 1, 1924 in Bettendorf, IA. She enjoyed many years of retirement, retiring as Assistant Manager of the Classified Ad Department of the Indianapolis Star/News in 1989. She spent her life dedicated to raising her 6 children. She was a single mother, which was uncommon back in the 50s and 60s. She worked 2 jobs at times to provide the necessities of life to her 6 children. She was rich in the ability to provide love and laughter to her family and that is her legacy.
She is survived by her children Scott Lyons (Ann), Linda Lawrence (Jon), Kathy Lyons, John Lyons (Beth), Karen Speziale (Lenny) and Bev Masengale (Tom). She is also survived by her 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Her children will miss seeing her standing at the door, smiling and waving as we left following a visit. It was only fitting that, as she left home for the last time on February 19, her children stood united at her door and waved goodbye to her. We know through faith that we will one day see her again.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, February 22 at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, February 21, 2012, at Feeney-Hornak Keystone, 2126 East 71st Street, Indianapolis. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
We would particularly like to thank Jean Majors, N.P. of the Indiana Heart Clinic for the outstanding care and compassion she provided during our Mother’s final years. Memorial tributes may be offered at www.feeneyhornakkeystone.com.
