Betty L. Toney

She was born in Crawfordsville, IN to the late Myrtle and Grover Ellis. She was a longtime member of the First Christian Church.She graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1944. She worked at Mid State & Co. for 4 years. In 1955 she received her Bachelor’s degree from Transylvania College in Lexington, KY then earned her Master’s degree from Indiana University in Bloomington. She taught elementary school for several years and then went abroad in 1963 to teach in Ramala, Jordan.She married Harold Toney in 1969 in Richmond, IN. They enjoyed life together in Florida and Greenwood until his passing in 2002.Betty is survived by her sister Mary Ellis, stepsons; Samuel, Noble and Glen Toney and one step daughter Fay Nicholson. She is also survived by five nephews; Jim and Tim Gineris of Crawfordsville, Mike Gineris of Harrisburg, VA., Dennis Ellis of Greenwood, IN and Ronnie Ellis of Brownsburg, IN, two nieces; Nancy Peer of New Jersey and Jane Ellis of Indianapolis, IN. and 8 step-grandchildren.Betty was preceded in death by a sister and a brother and also an infant son.

Friends may call on Friday, October 14, 2011 from 4-8 p.m. in Little and Sons Funeral Home Stop 11 Chapel. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at 10 a.m. also in the funeral home. Burial in Lutherania Cemetery, Richmond, IN. www.littleandsonsindianapolis.com
