Betty was born in Indianapolis to Elmer Duncan and Mamie Tillie Duncan on May 31, 1931. She attended IPS elementary schools and Crispus Attucks High School. She married Walter M. McGee on March 28, 1949, in Indianapolis. She worked at Naval Avionics, Tiny Tot, as a seasonal postal worker, and as a homemaker.
Betty enjoyed traveling, especially to church conventions. She loved collecting doll houses and antique dolls. She enjoyed arts and crafts which included painting and displaying her work. During the holiday season, Betty created delightful scenes by decorating her home with an extensive collection of animated figures and other unique objects acquired through the years. Her efforts were especially appreciated by younger family members.
Betty was kind and generous. She often welcomed family and friends in her home where she and her husband shared their many blessings. Guided by her Christian faith, she was always available to help whomever was in need.
Betty accepted Christ at an early age and became a devoted member of Church of God in Christ. She attended Deliverance Temple COGIC faithfully until her health declined.
Betty is preceded in death by her spouse, Elder Walter M. McGee, Sr., her parents, Elmer and Mamie Tillie Duncan, sisters, Bernice Duncan and Thelma Montgomery, brothers, Elmer Duncan, James Duncan, Leon T. Duncan, Robert Duncan, William B. Duncan
Betty is survived by daughters Tawanna J. Southern, Teresa McCorkle, Brenda Jefferson, son Walter M. McGee, Jr. (Denise), grandchildren, Bushon Glover, LaKesha Tate, Brian Southern (Tonjameka), Yolanda Glover, Zondra Crawford (Robert), Orlando Glover, Amanda McGee, LaQuetta Wade (Ronald), Danyale McCorkle, twenty-three great-grandchildren, sixteen great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends.
Visitation will be held at 10-12 noon, Friday, July 24, 2020, at Crown Hill Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 12 noon, Friday, July 24, 2020 with Pastor Leon Graves officiating. Burial will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are by Crown Hill Funeral Home.
