born on March 13, 1950, in a house on Tremont in Haughville of Indianapolis, Indiana. Her parents
were both preceded in her death.
Barbara, Mrs. T., Dot, Short Stuff or T-Ma as she was affectionately called, confessed her hope in Christ at an early age and was baptized at Barnes United Methodist Church, however, it wasn't until her early 20s that the Holy Spirit fell upon her while singing in the choir stand with the St. Joseph choir.
Barbara attended Crispus Attucks High School and participated in plays such as the Production of Oklahoma and graduated in 1968. Barbara briefly worked downtown at William H Block Company Department Store but in 1970, she became gainfully employed at Indiana Bell as a Directory Assistance Telephone Operator, and in 2004 she was thoroughly supported and encouraged by her Sugar Cakes Morris to retire early. When her Husband Morris took up the hobby of talking on the CB radio her handle was RED HEADED LADY & his was Milk-Bone.
On January. 30, 1971, she was united in Holy Matrimony to Morris L. Thompson and to this union two children were born whom she loved immensely. Barbara had many gifts and talents like painting, gift wrapping, and landscaping and loved going to the hardware stores, pottery, floral arrangements, upholstery, decor, and design and even tried her hand at plumbing and electrical work like her father as well as doing hair because of her big play sister Bessie McCall who was a Beautician.
For a moment Barbara even worked at Flynn Moses Beauty Supply but she lacked the confidence to act on those things. Barbara also had the opportunity to travel with one of her dearest friends Carolyn to Washington DC to be a part of the grassroots campaign to elect President Barack Obama by assisting with voter registrations as well as volunteering for Habitat for Humanity to build homes which she took
great pride in.
In 1985, Barbara and her family began searching for a new church home after their former pastor had died but after only visiting three churches one of them being The Church of the First Born Saints, it
was something about the unadulterated preached word and inviting spirit of First Born that she and her loved ones were drawn to, had dreams about, and were intrigued to learn of the Holiness of which she tarried
at the alter for the first time until she did receive the gift of the Holy Ghost and became a member under the leadership of the late Bishop Preston E. Daniels Ill & Mother Martha Helen Daniels shortly after
which she joined the choir and assisted with decorating for programs.
Barbara was extremely hospitable (often calling her loved ones to check in rather local or out of town) and loved to travel, entertain, cook from scratch, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed all her cooking. As a child Barbara was a Tom Boy (Annie Oakley was one of her favorites) and her Father taught her and her brothers how to box (even knocked a boy out once) she enjoyed shopping, skating, dancing, outdoors, singing, drawing, fishing, and live bands at the CYO field (one of her fond memories was of James Brown performing).
In Barbara's early teens she also took on the role of a 2nd mother to her siblings even to her two older brothers and would cook, feed them, protect them, and discipline them too, she'd even taken them on trips to Six Flags when she got older. Barbara had a cool, laid-back way about her, she was smooth, nurturing, always pleasant, humble, and meek and she carried herself as a Lady of strength with grace, poise, sophistication, and elegance, she was also well known for the very classy way she dressed daily.
In 2014, she was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and over time developed additional terminal illnesses.
On Sunday, March 26, 2023, Mrs. Barbara Ann Thompson departed this earthly life at the young age of 73, just 13 days after her birthday and the very recent sudden death of her Husband Morris she heavily
grieved. They kept their vows until death they did briefly part them just months before they would have celebrated 52 years of marriage in January of 2023. Barbara's brother Jimmy Reed, in-loves Mr. &
Mrs. James W. Thompson also preceded in her death.
Barbara leaves to cherish her priceless memories; a Daughter Marva (Prince) Davidson, a Son Mark (Tamika) Thompson. Barbara was affectionately called T-Ma by her Grands; Mia Janae' & Darrin
Michael Thompson, Sean Page, and Chantail Harris. Great Grand Harmony Lanae', Brothers Louis, Steven & David Reed, Sister Carol (Stephen) Hatch. Bonus Brothers & Sisters Jake (Doris), Willis C (Joan), John D (Diane), Benny (Joan) & Kenny Thompson and a host of nephews, nieces, other loved ones, co-workers/friends with a special acknowledgment to Mahogany Simms who became like an
adopted granddaughter to Barbara in the last few months.
