Barbara moved to Indianapolis, IN when she was a very young child, she attended Indianapolis Public Schools and graduated from Shortridge High School in 1953. Barbara attended Indianapolis General Hospital School of Nursing, where she received her degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Barbara worked for many years as an LPN at General Hospital in Indianapolis prior to entering the field of private duty nursing.
Barbara married William Russell Simons July 16, 1960, and together they enjoyed traveling, socializing with family and friends and the many Top Flight Golf outings. She was known for her (secret recipe) homemade rolls and cakes. One of Barbara’s favorite memories as a child was spending summers with her Grandmother Willie Mae Brown in Tennessee every summer. She enjoyed years of Thursday nights with the girls.
Barbara, her Mother Georgia and her Daughter Deborah; would shop till they dropped and then dine at a fine restaurant.
Barbara was baptized at an early age. She was a member of Witherspoon Presbyterian Church for over 70 years. She looked forward to working at the church’s annual rummage sale and she always pitched in to help at the fellowship hour after Sunday services.
Barbara was a wonderful Mother and Grandmother. She was compassionate and devoted to the care of her family and patients.
Barbara Jean Simons departed this life November 10, 2023 at the age of 87. She was preceded in death by her Husband William Russell Simon, and her Parents Arthur and Georgia Bell. She leaves to cherish her memories her Daughter, Deborah Ann Carter, Grandson, Brandon Russell Carter and Great-granddaughter, Aubriee R. Carter, Aunt, Opal Lee Carpenter-Mayfield and a host of Nieces, Nephews, other family and friends.
A visitation for Barbara will be held Saturday, November 25, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Witherspoon Presbyterian Church, 3535 W Kessler Blvd N Drive, Indianapolis, IN 46222, followed by a celebration of life at 12:00 PM.
