Barbara Jean Clark, age 82 passed away on February 3, 2022. Born Barbara Jean Harris in Camden, South Carolina and raised in New Rochelle, New York with her sisters Myrtle, Beverly and her brother James. She graduated with a degree in biology from Xavier University in New Orleans, Louisiana, where she met her husband, Edward E. Clark. After college they moved to Bloomington Indiana where Edward attended medical school, and then settled in Indianapolis, Indiana, where he started his medical practice after his residency. Together they raised their three daughters. Barbara was married to Edward until his death in February 1985.
Barbara was a free spirit and a liberal thinker who never lacked an opinion. She also enjoyed a good time and wanted everyone around her to be comfortable and enjoy the moment. Barbara was a devout Catholic and was active in her parish, St. Thomas Aquinas, while in Indianapolis. One of her most treasured moments in life was being able to attend mass conducted by Pope John Paul II in New Orleans in 1987.
We were lucky to have her as a mother, she loved us, protected us and spoiled us. She never cut off discussion of any subject and, more often than not, was open to differing views and ideas. She emphasized education as the key to our independence throughout our lives. Above all she was always supportive of her family and friends; and welcomed our friends as her own.
Barbara is survived by her siblings James and Myrtle; her daughters Denise and Carol and her grandson Jordan. She is preceded by her sister Beverly, her husband Edward, her mother Willie, and her daughter Deborah.
Her final resting place is next to Edward at Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis, Indiana.
The family requests that friends and family consider a tribute contribution to the Alzheimer’s Association. (https://act.alz.org/donate)
