IN THE CARE OF
Leppert Mortuaries - Nora
It is with great sadness the family of Andrea “Andy” Martin announces that she passed away the morning of August 9th, 2019 at the age of 68.
Andrea was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1951. She graduated from North Central High School in Indianapolis, Indiana, attended Purdue and Butler University. Andy was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority.
Andrea’s love for animals began at a young age and continued through her work as a registrar for The Indianapolis Zoo and The Houston Zoo as well as volunteering for the Agape Horse Therapy. She was a leader in membership for the Zoo Registrars Association, a Board member for NAVVF and Zionsville Historical Society.
There was not a living creature Andrea didn’t show kindness to. She had a big heart and passion for advocating for those in need. Even the cats in her neighborhood knew of her unwavering, caring soul and would often visit her and sometimes ended up making a home there with her. Her family will miss her signature laugh, Calligraphy written cards, kindness, love for animals, and ability to treasure the antiques of the world.
Andrea will be lovingly remembered by her family, Mickey (Sister), Mark (brother-in-law) Speelman, William Martin (brother), Patty (sister), Doug (brother in-law) Brown, many cousins, nieces, nephews as well as great nieces and nephews. Andrea was preceded in death by her parents Bill and Glenna Martin. Andy will be buried at Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis, IN with her parents. A private memorial service will be held at a future date.
In memory of Andrea’s love for animals her family asks in lieu of flowers to make a donation to Lori Marker’s Cheetah Conservation Fund, The Indianapolis Zoo or your local Zoo.
