Alonzo Robert Browner, Jr. (Pete), 74, was born on May 14, 1945, and passed away at his home on December 16, 2019, with his loving wife Donna L. Rivera Browner at his side. Pete was the second born to Mary Ellen (Jones) and the late Alonzo Robert Browner, Sr.
Pete had a joyous and happy childhood, growing up in Marion, Ind., with his three sisters and one brother. At a young age, he developed a passion for boxing and muscle cars and a healthy work ethic. After graduating from Marion High School in 1963, Pete began an apprenticeship to become a brick mason.
Pete had many accomplishments in his boxing career. From 1963 to 1965, he was the Indiana Golden Gloves Champion. In 1964, he was a Eastern Olympic trial box-off semifinalist and the National AAU semifinalist. In 1965, Pete was a National Golden Gloves semifinalist.
Pete was called to serve his country on May 31, 1966, and served in the Unites States Marine Corps. During his time of service, he was the all-Marine boxing champion for two years. And in 1968, he was an alternate for the Olympic Boxing Team.
After Pete's honorable discharge from the Marine Corps. on February 2, 1972, he continued his brick masonry craftsmanship. Pete also worked as a lineman for AT&T in Indianapolis, Ind., he then began his dedicated career as a United States Postal employee, until his retirement in 1996.
After Pete's retirement, he devoted his free time to the Bricklayers Union and (DAV) Disabled Veteran's Association, Chapter 3. He also enjoyed traveling and family time.
Pete is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Donna L. Rivera Browner, whom he married in Michigan City, Ind., on October 8, 1991; Children, Vincent (Carrie), South Bend, Ind., Carlos (Terry), Michigan City, Ind., Diego (Tamika), Indianapolis, Ind., Carmita, Jacksonville, Fl.; Siblings, Sheila K. (Vincent) Harrington, Hawthorne, CA, Carol S. (Kenny) Gaines, Kokomo, Ind., William Browner, Tuscon, AZ; Grandchildren, Bryce and Quincy Browner, Kia (Jay) Parks, Axel, Tracy and Troy, Jordan, Jessica, Erica, and Lucas; and 10 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and family members.
Pete was preceded in death by Alonzo Robert Browner, Sr. (Father), Roberta Jones (Sister), Alonzo Robert Browner III, (Son).
A memorial service will be held from 12 - 4 p.m., Sunday, December 22, 2019, at Needham Storey Wampner, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, Ind. 46952
Funeral services will take place at Williams & Bluitt Funeral Home, 5252 E. 38th St., Indianapolis, Ind. 46218, on Thursday, December 26, 2019, starting at 12 p.m., with visitation from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
