Alice Caroline Wills, 101 years of age, was born March 16, 1920 to Calvin White and Roberta Jones White in Christian County, Kentucky. Alice was their first born, oldest of nine and the sole survivor. Her 102nd birthday would have been celebrated March 16th.
Alice attended high school in Evansville, Indiana and following high school moved to Indianapolis. In 1940 she was united in marriage to Frank J. Wills. They were married 43 years until Frank’s death in 1983.
Alice worked a variety of positions but found her passion in the nursing field at Indiana University Hospital where she retired after 30 plus years of service. She had a servant’s heart and found great joy in helping and comforting others – a quality she passed down through her entire family lineage.
Alice accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. Her personal faith journey in Indianapolis began at 25th Street Baptist Church where she served in the Nurses Ministry. She later joined St. Bridget Catholic Church where she was an active member of Ladies Court #109 for several years and still maintained close relationships with her fellow members until her heavenly departure.
Throughout her life Alice loved to travel, cook and spend time with family and friends. She was a member of the Thrifty Ten Social Club, made a mean peach cobbler and a summer cake that took 1st Place honors two years in a row at the University of Indianapolis. Her home was host to many family gatherings – she was the glue that held us all together.
Alice was kind, helpful, thoughtful, caring and was willing to help anyone in any way she could. She invested ALL of herself into her family and was especially proud of her grandchildren and their many accomplishments. She was their biggest cheerleader and fan!
