Alan was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on February 17, 1999. As a child, he attended Jewel Christian Academy at Eastern Star Church, and graduated from Lawrence Central High School in 2017. Alan gave his life to Christ at an early age and was baptized at Eastern Star Church. He participated in various ministries at church such as the youth, security, and sound ministries.
Alan worked in the food industry and had an impeccable work ethic. He would cover any shift whenever asked, even on his days off. He did not like being unemployed. Even during the pandemic, when the world was shut down, he was searching for a job instead of filing for unemployment. He shared his love of food by cooking meals for his mom on various occasions, such as every Mother’s Day, every birthday and whenever he wanted to create a new dish. He would say, “mom, I’m going to cook for you!” The meal was delicious but when he was finished, every dish in the kitchen was in the sink which provoked a fuss between him and his mom. Alan never met a stranger. He was kind to everyone he met and had an extra special affection for the elderly and children. Big Al, as some family members called him, really loved ALL his family. Alan was affectionally called the Velvet Teddy Bear by his grandmother. He loved get-togethers with the family, especially game night with the cousins, and playing video games. He loved traveling and was looking forward to an upcoming trip to Hawaii with his mom.
Alan’s memory will be cherished by his loving mother, Karen Grubbs, grandparents, Malvern (Margaret) Grubbs, Bishop Damon S. (Marsha) Roach, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of other family and friends.
A visitation for Alan will be held Monday, November 20, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Crown Hill Funeral Home, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, IN 46208, followed by a celebration of life at 12:00 PM.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.crownhill.org for the Roach family.
