Dr. Ahmet Ferit Fer, a beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away on January 17th 2025 at the age of 79. Born on July 31st 1945 in Ankara, Turkey to his mother Hayrunnisa and Muslih Fer. Ahmet lived a life marked by kindness, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved.
Ahmet dedicated his life to the education of countless students as a professor of Electrical Engineering. To earn his PhD at the University of Birmingham, he helped develop Europe’s first telecommunications satellite which happens to still be in orbit today. He went on to educate students in Turkey at Middle East Technical University and in the United States at Purdue University. His colleagues and friends often remarked on his incredible patience, innovative spirit and kind demeanor making him a favorite of many of his students.
A pillar of his community, Ahmet was known for his long service as the president of both the Turkish Association of Indianapolis as well as the Nationalities Council of Indiana where he won multiple awards for his service. He gave selflessly of his time and energy, leaving an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Ahmet's greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his wife Esther, his two sons Danyal and Adam and brother Mehmet, who will forever cherish the memories of his humor, wonderful stories and his excellence as a soccer coach.
In his leisure time, Ahmet enjoyed cycling, reading and composing poetry, often sharing these passions with friends and family. His encyclopedic knowledge of the world fueled his many long stories that will be fondly remembered by all who shared those moments with him.
A memorial service to honor Ahmet’s remarkable life will be held on February 15th 2025, 2:00PM at Crown Hill Funeral Home in Indianapolis.

Ahmet Ferit Fer’s life was a testament to curiosity and unending kindness. His legacy will continue to inspire and guide those he leaves behind. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
Ahmet will be privately laid to rest in Crown Hill Cemetery, 700 W 38th St, Indianapolis, IN.
