Dennis Graham Avery

Dennis was born in Carman, MB on December 20, 1942.

Dennis grew up in Medora, MB. He loved to play baseball and cribbage and he enjoyed fishing and hunting ducks and geese. He was a grain buyer for Pool Elevators for many years in Rounthwaite, MB and Pilot Mound, MB and then he moved west to Calgary, AB to work on the pipelines where he started his own company providing inspection services. He lived his dream when he, along with friends, owned and operated a fly in fishing camp on Bain Lake in northern Manitoba. He was a whiz with numbers and was never afraid of hard work. Dennis was a bit of a loner and sometimes a little crunchy on the outside but with a soft center; he had a heart of gold and would stop to help a stranger on the side of the road. Over the years, he enjoyed the annual family get togethers at Thanksgiving in Medora and then on Grant and Gail’s farm and he liked to spend time with Janet and Ove in Calgary. He looked forward to spring and fall when he would head to Rounthwaite to help his friends Jack Granger and Andrew Granger put the crop in and harvest. He also enjoyed visiting his friend Dennis Smith on Haida Guaii, BC to fish for salmon and then in later years in Grand Forks, BC. Dennis spent the last few years of his life in Regina, SK where he enjoyed playing crib, walking the dogs and giving them too many treats and the occasional game of pool. When his health deteriorated and he could no longer care for himself he moved to the Golden Prairie Home in Indian Head, SK where he received excellent care and we could walk the dogs and take drives into the country.

Dennis was predeceased by his parents, Howard Avery - October 1997 and Ina Avery - April 2010, and his sister Janet Olesen – December 2017.

Dennis is survived by his sister Gail (Grant) Cassils and his brother in law Ove Olesen. He also leaves behind three daughters and their families: Kerry Avery (Mark Furlan), Jessica and Grant; Kelly Murray (Dan), Mitchell, Doug, Brynn and Grayson; Kim Murray (Paul), Logan, Madison, Kelly and Eden.

The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the staff at Golden Prairie and especially Jodie Irving for their compassionate and loving care of Dennis. They would also like to thank Dr Kathy Ferguson for all that she has done for Dennis over the past 10 years.

A memorial service will be held for close friends and family at a later date.
