William Dean McCurry was born on May 11, 1929 in Imperial, NE to his parents Hobart McCurry and Martha Einspahr McCurry. He went to Heaven on December 6, 2022 at the age of 93 where he lived in Independence, MO. William (Bill) is survived by his daughters Cynthia Friend and Trudy Dowhower, his grandchildren Shana Kelly (Jared) , Tyler Kreutner (Emily), Keri Aine (Tom), Casey Horne (Desirae), Carissa Horne (Kohl) , and 14 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife Agnes Wagner McCurry, son-in-law Kerby Dowhower, grandson Jacob Dowhower, sisters Goldie Smith, Thelma Yost, and Connie Borell. Bill and Agnes were married on January 1, 1950 in Imperial, NE. In his early years, Bill worked on the construction of the Imperial Grain Elevator, then trained as a meat cutter to work in the local grocery store. For most of his career, Bill sold John Deere equipment in local and surrounding counties. He eventually was offered a position to manage a failing local co-op grocery store making it successful as well as a popular social gathering place. In 1977 Bill was asked to move to Independence, MO to manage the newly formed Independence Coop Food Fair. Bill was an Elder in the RLDS Church and served as pastor for 12 years in Imperial, NE. He continued his priesthood responsibilities in Independence, MO as Patriarch for as long as his health allowed. His passions and joy in life were his church ministry, family, and service to others. He greatly enjoyed fishing and was an avid ping-pong player. Bill made friends easily and was well respected by those who knew him including in his last days.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, December 23, 2022, at 6:00PM at the Remnant Church of Jesus Christ at 2820 M 291 Frontage Rd., Independence, MO 64057.
