Leonard G. Day of Independence, Missouri passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2022 at the age of 79. Surrounded by his bride of 61 years, Linda, and family, he slipped the surly bonds of his earthly body and awoke in the presence of his Savior Jesus. It was certainly better than his wildest dreams… it was Beyond Belief.
Leonard was born June 20, 1942 in Marshall, MO. In June of 1960 he married the love of his life, Linda. Together they raised their daughters, Kimberly and Leonda in Independence, MO.
A life of tremendous faith, Leonard faithfully served his Creator as a preacher and teacher while building a booming bus ministry. He spent decades caring for our parks during his time at Jackson County Parks and Recreation. He was a talented musician and a skilled mechanic. Leonard loved restoring, building, and souping up classics, dune buggies, and Volkswagens. He was a self-proclaimed minimalist, always encouraging others to downsize. Heeding advice given to him, he wanted everyone to learn to hate paying interest. Leonard’s playful wit and charming humor will be missed, but his legacy will endure in the lives of all he loved. Reunited in death, Leonard is assuredly praising his Savior alongside his best friend and lifelong spiritual mentor, Ernie.
Leonard is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Virginia Day; and brother, Leroy Day. His legacy endures in the life of his loving wife, Linda; their daughters, Leonda Day and Kimberly Mangels (Mark); grandchildren, Matthew (Amy) Mangels, Megan (Jake) Gibler, Katie (Ryan) Thomas, and Cooper Mangels; 11 great grandchildren; a sister, Teresa Wagener; nieces and nephews; neighbors and friends.
Services for Leonard will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at the Newcomer's Noland Road Chapel, 509 S. Noland Rd., Independence, MO 64050. Visitation will be held from 10am - 11am with funeral service beginning at 11am. Burial following in Woodlawn Cemetery.
