Jim was born October 14, 1955 in Kansas City, MO. to Joyce Nadine (Reed) Starr
At age 11, Jim’s family moved to Oceanside, CA. He attended Oceanside High School where he was a part of the baseball team. His team was so good they were invited to play at the CIF- California State Baseball Championship. Upon graduation in 1973, he moved back to Independence with a baseball scholarship to Central Missouri State.
He was a member of the Ban Johnson Baseball League and given the opportunity to travel to Danville, VA., for the World Series.
Having met Annie when she was only 6 yrs old, the two married on June 5, 1983.
His passion for baseball led him and his wife Annie to the 1985 Royals World Series and back to the 2015 Royals World Series with his brother Steve.
He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for more than 20 years until he retired. As big as his passion was for all things sports, his passion for family was twice the size. He will be missed by all that had the privilege to know him.
He is survived by his wife; Annie Starr of Independence, brother; Steve Starr of Shawnee, KS., sister; Dean Ann Green of Blue Springs, MO., daughter; Michaela Starr of Independence, MO., uncle; Dennis Reed of Bumpass, VA., aunts; Alice LePage of Mississippi and Sug Fagan of Oak Grove, MO.
