Beverly Eugene (Gene) Johnson, 82, of Independence, MO went home to the Lord on Friday, November 18, 2022 at home. Born on May 6, 1940 to Beverly H, and Veda Johnson in Sumner, MO. During his 82 years, he was a man of many trades. One of which was his service in the US Navy from 1961-64. During his service, he earned the rank of PN3(SS)E-4 while serving on the submarine, USS-Alexander Hamilton. At the end of his service, he married the love of his life, Mary Louise (Olson) Johnson, on June 29th, 1964 in Kansas City, MO. He was a member of the Steelworkers Union as an electrician. He, eventually, became a project manager / estimator before he started Gene’s Electric in 1987. Gene also was on the board and an active member in NECA. He and his three sons worked together before retiring in 2009. During his free time, he loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and gardening. Gene and Mary raised their children in Odessa before moving to Independence. Gene was also a baker, known for his pies, fudge, and peanut brittle, which he shared with everyone he could.
Gene was a devoted Christian and a faithful member of Oakwood Baptist Church. In serving his Lord, he volunteered his time to give to others including St. Luke’s Hospice and various mission projects. Gene loved both his family and church family and would spend as much time as he could with them. He enjoyed visits to Sumner, MO, with his children and grandchildren.
Beverly Eugene (Gene) Johnson was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Mary
Louise, and three sons Kevin (Anita) Johnson, Lone Jack, Robert Todd Johnson, Concordia, and Eric (Dawna) Johnson, Odessa. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Nathan, Emily, Thomas, and Aleah. Two sisters, Judy (Gordon) Kemp, Gladstone and Kathy (Vic) Munson, Kansas City.
Visitation will be held Saturday, 11-26-2022 at 10am, followed by a Funeral Service at 11am. Both services will be at the Oakwood Baptist Church at 7600 Lee’s Summit Rd, Kansas City, Mo 64139. Burial to follow in Mt Tabor Cemetery, Odessa, Mo.
