Al “Butch” Saunders, Jr. 63, of Independence, MO passed away Friday, August 14, 2015 in Independence, MO. Funeral service will be Thursday, August 20, 2015 at 2:00 pm at the Noland Road Chapel, 509 S. Noland Rd. Independence, MO 64050 with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 19 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the chapel.
Butch was born August 30, 1951 in Clayton, MO. He graduated from Ritenour High School in Overland, MO. Butch served in the United States Marine Corp from 1970 to 1972. He was employed at Griffin Wheel prior to his retirement. He was the past Fire Chief of Wabash in the early 80’s and was a member of the Coles County Dive Team. Butch was a member of the NRA and also the Garand Collector’s Association.
Survivors include his wife of 14 years, Candace; two sons from his first marriage, Brandon Saunders (Michelle) and Eric Saunders; two step-sons Scott Coen (Vicki) and Trent Coen (Juliane Lima) and daughter- like friend, Katherine Venyard; a brother, Alfred Nolte Saunders (Nancy); three granddaughters, Briannae, Alexandria and Kaylin Saunders; nieces and nephews Kristin and David Saunders, Rachel and Elizabeth Novotny and sister-in-law Cheryl Lemon.
