John H. Davidson, 89 of Idaho Falls, Firth, and Ashton, passed away at Teton Rehab Center on November 16. He was born December 30, 1927 in Provo, Utah to C.C. and Mary Davidson. He was the 4th of 7 children. John was a skilled boxer at Ashton High School, graduating in 1946. John then enlisted in the US Army, serving in post-war Japan and the Korean conflict. John served in 11th Airborne, the 183rd, the 116th and 938th Engineers, then the 116th National Guard. He was called up for the Berlin Flight. He retired in 1968 as a Sgt Major.
In 1947 John married Helen Grob. Two sons, Jim and Nick, were born to this union. Helen passed away in 1963.
In 1966 he married Vicki Hart. Two sons, Shane and Dan, were born to this union they lived at Ashton, Goshen, Firth, and Idaho Falls. John worked for nearly forty years for Utah Power and Light beginning in Ashton and retiring from the Goshen Substation as a dispatcher in 1987. John also worked for Boyd Jolley Gas Company and as a Fort Hall water master.
John loved sports and the outdoors and participating in activities with his family and friends. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, water and snow skiing, and running trap lines. He was a pilot, and enjoyed snowmobiling, and was an avid bowler and golfer. Most important in his life was his love of family. His sense of humor and love of life endeared him to all who knew him. He enjoyed his memberships in Riverview Grange and with Eastern Star. John also served more than 50 years as a Master Mason. John loved singing funny songs, and telling funny stories, and playing the harmonica.
He was preceded in death by four siblings: Elizabeth Kidd, and Eileen, Jim and Bill Davidson.
John is survived by: his wife Vicki of 52 years, four sons Jim (Tauna) of Sequim, WA; Nick (Sindi) of Pocatello, ID; Shane of Pocatello, ID; and Dan (Diane) of Heyburn, ID, 7 grandchildren; Brian, Travis, Casey, Sean; Shellie (Andrew) Smith, Jonathan, and Katie; several great-grandchildren, siblings Ed (Ellen) Davidson of Hunter, UT; Paula (Gene) Christiansen of Pocatello, ID, and sister in-laws Jean Davidson of Pocatello, ID, and Lucille Davidson of Ashton, ID.
John’s family would like to give special thanks to Teton Post Acute Care and Rehab Center of Idaho Falls for the wonderful loving care that they provided him. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Idaho Youth Ranch.
