Rita D. Alander

Rita D. (Glass) Alander of Hyannis, died gracefully on Thursday, February 16, 2017 with her loving family by her side. Rita was the daughter of the late John and Margaret (Henrion) Glass. She was born and raised in Kingston, MA where she met the love of her life, Alvin Alander with whom she shared 66 years. She and Alvin moved to New Bedford where they resided for 6 years before moving to the Cape 51 years ago.

Rita was a waitress for many years at the Dolphin Restaurant in Barnstable. She volunteered at the Cape Cod Hospital Thrift Shop in Hyannis and was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Guild. She enjoyed cooking, reading and loved to travel. For the last 25 years Rita spent her winters in Naples, FL. Above all else, Rita adored her family and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren

Rita is predeceased by her daughters Jill Alander and Amy Weth. She is survived by her loving husband Alvin, her son Jon Alander and wife Cindy and her daughter Kristin Shepherd and husband Doug. Rita is also survived by her 9 grandchildren; Jaime, Benjamin, Matthew, Timothy, Nicholas, Megan, Sara, Molly and Zachary and her 3 great-grandchildren Sophie, Jillian and Charlotte. She also leaves behind close family members Paul and Leslie Chizek and Thomas Weth.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend a memorial visitation at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 160 W. Main St., Hyannis, MA 02601 on Thursday, February 23, 2017 from 10am to 12noon immediately followed by a 12noon service. Burial will be private.
